Lalita Sakhi's Appearance Day

Lalita Sakhi

Lalita is one of the principal eight sakhis (girlfriends) of Srimati Radharani in Vrindavan. It means “playful and charming”. She is a very dear friend of Radha-Krsna. Lalita Sakhi and her assistants incarnate from time to time in the material realm to propagate the topmost mood of serving Radha-Krsna, namely to become a maid-servant of Srimati Radharani.

Srila Prabhupada's Appearance Day: The first TV interview in New York 1966

In september 1965, during the blossoming of America's hedonistic counterculture hippy movement, sannyasi A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami, 70 years old and outside India for the first time, arrives in New York City. He comes to fulfill the instruction of his spiritual master, accepted as order, to spread the teachings of Lord Chaitanya in the English language.

An acquaintance of Srila Prabhupada remembers:
“When he left Calcutta harbour for New York there was no one on the shore to bid him goodbye. He was alone. No friends, no supporter, no disciple, nobody.“
And when he arrives in America there is no one to greet him welcome...

The voyage across the Atlantic on board the Jaladuta cargo ship takes one month, during which time he suffers two severe heart attacks. But the trip itself is very smooth. Srila Prabhupada writes in his diary:
Mr. Travers told me that he had never such experience of calm & quietness of the Atlantic Ocean. There was always typhoon, cyclone, fog, etc. at least for days in every trip in the past. I said it is Lord Krishna's Grace. If such things as usual in Atlantic would have taken place, I would die.
He reaches New York with just some few personal possessions, a trunk full of his newly-published Srimad Bhagavatam books, and the equivalent of seven dollars.

A plan is put into action: he goes to Tompkins Square Park, sits down and begins playing kartalas and singing the Hare Krishna mantra. And pretty soon things start moving.

This is the first TV interview, from October 1966.

 The rest is history.

Lover of the cowherd girls, Holder of the Govardhana hill
Darling Child of mother Yasoda, and Delighter of the inhabitants of Vraja
Who wanders in the forests along the banks of the Yamuna)

Sri Krishna Janmastami: Purport to Jaya Radha-Madhava (Srila Prabhupada)

Srila Prabhupada explains the song Jaya Radha Madhava, about Krishna in Vrindavan, His original form (not an expansion or incarnation).

TRANSCRIPT

Sri Krishna Janmastami: The 4 principal verses of Bhagavad Gita (Srila Sridhar Maharaj)

Srila Sridhar Maharaj's deep-diving and beautiful translations and commentaries on the four principal verses of the Bhagavad Gita, where Krishna describes Himself as The Absolute and reveals what His business is with us, His emanations (simultaneously one with and different from Him). Thus hinting to His final, topmost and quintessential instruction: Abandon all varieties of duties, religion and spirituality and just surrender to Me (Bhagavad Gita 18.66).

Swami B.A. Sridhar Maharaj Special: Maha Mantra Kirtan in Nimaihuset

Nimaihuset friend Swami B.A. Sridhar Maharaj, visiting from Poland again on Janmastami tomorrow (and once again in 3 weeks to hold a 2-day mantra meditation-course), doing the Maha Mantra in his own bluesy way, accompanied by some groovy beats, handclaps, and a choir of response-singing devotees. The best interpretation of the Nimaihuset vibe as of yet. (Gurumaharaj in the chair.)

Balarama Jayanti Celebration at Vasudeva's, Arci's and Karuna Mayi's (Pictures)

The temple has a very small and beautiful Deity of Balarama, Subhadra and Jagannatha. But for the Balarama Jayanti celebration we took them for a ride through Gothenburg (a little jumpy) to Vasudeva's, Arci's and their daughter Karuna Mayi's place, who also have them on their home altar, to celebrate the day at theirs, with some singing, lecture and prasadam.

Nimaihuset's Balarama, Subhadra and Jagannatha Deities, very, very small and very, very dear, in front of Gurumaharaj, guest-starring on Arci's and Vasudeva's home altar.

Razón de Ser – New CD from Nimaihuset's Manah-Siksa Devi Dasi

Razón de Ser is an album containing 14 songs in spanish, based on a beautiful long-poem by Atulananda Acharya. In 2008 I composed the first songs, and now, six years later, I have completed the album, which covers the major part of the poem.

Sri Krishna Janmastami Celebration — With Swami B.A. Sridhar Maharaj

I am Krsna, the Sweet Absolute.
I am the root cause
of the all-comprehensive aspect of the Absolute [Brahman]
the all-permeating aspect of the Absolute [Paramatma]
and also the personal aspect of the Absolute [Bhagavan] –
the Master of all potencies,
who commands the respect of everyone – Lord Narayana of Vaikuntha.
The universe of mundane and divine flow,
every attempt and movement,
the Vedas and allied scriptures which guide everyone's worship –
all are initiated by Me alone.
Realizing this hidden treasure,
the virtuous souls who are blessed with fine theistic intellect
surpass the standards of duty and non-duty,
and embrace the paramount path of love divine,
and adore Me
forever.

Those surrendered devotees take Me as their life and soul,
and go on discussing My ambrosial narrations among one another,
exchanging the ecstasies of devotion unto Me.
They constantly relish the nectar
of their realized divine relationships with Me
in their respective internal natures
of servitorship, friendship, parenthood, or consorthood.

– Bhagavad Gita 10.8 and 9, translation by Srila Sridhar Maharaj
